driver design (size, shape, etc.), MOI improvements have improved by a
factor of about 20 percent. Distance increases have attended these
changes. The same is predicted for the geometry-based designs.

You are just off the green, and you can proceed a number of different
ways. Always choose the easiest. First consider putting the ball. If
that can't work, think of chipping. Only after ruling out a chip
should you decide on a pitch with a lofted club. Consider the
alternatives, from easy to hard, but always pick the easiest.

It's the wrists, stupid! With time on his hands, golfer metrologist (
measure scientist) Rod White concocted a double pendulum model of the
golf swing to determine, finally, where the power comes from in the
golf swing. White's research determined that wrists are the culprits,
contrary to much theory that has gone before. Besides such factors as
club and arm length, and the mass of the club head, the wrist-cock
angle (how far backward the wrists are bent) and wrist torque are the
most critical factors, according to White. To oversimplify the
conclusions, the study found that the energy and momentum of the
arm-club system are redistributed during the swing as a direct result
of the uncocking of the wrists that takes place before the club strikes
the ball. This, he says, is the reason that on occasion we all have
hit surprisingly long shots with very little effort.

An errant crow on a golf course in Leyland, Lancashire, UK has been
having a ball - in fact, quite a few balls - on that track for some
time. At Leyland Golf Club director of golf Colin Burgess reported last
month that on one day alone 20 golf balls went missing, mostly from the
13th hole, where the black bird appears to have established his hunting
ground. The members, says Burgess, are getting used to the situation.
